Birth Matters : A Whole Life Event

When Susan Booker emailed me 2 1/2 weeks ago asking if I wanted to be a part of Birth Matters, I experienced a moment of panic.  I've never done an event or expo or anything of that nature and was not AT ALL prepared, so my first thought was to decline.  After a few more minutes of thought, however, I decided to get over myself and just do it!  Sure it would be a lot of work to get ready in time (which it has been!) but it would be so worth it to be a part of such an awesome event!!  Birth Matters is, according to the event on Facebook a "gathering of holistic service providers from DeKalb and the surrounding areas. Nurturing family wellness through education."  There will be doctors, doulas, massage therapists, and many more providers and vendors.  There will also be live music and a bunch of fun giveaways!  I haven't decided what my giveaway will be yet, (What??  I still have a day to decide and I'll be darned if I'm going to decide any earlier than the last minute. ;]) but I'll think of something spiffy. :)

In a weird way, it's been kind of fun getting ready for this.  Sometimes I feel like a lot of the things I do for my business don't have an immediate finished product, so it was nice to accomplish something and actually have physical proof of that accomplishment.  I'll have two sample leather bound portrait books for everyone to flip through, some prints of my handsome boy (in these SUPER AWESOME FRAMES), and coupon cards that will get you 10% off of a session fee!  And as a bonus, you'll get to see which image of Lucas I chose to print as a canvas!  (I'm not really sure how much of a bonus that really is, but he sure looks cute on a 16X24 canvas ;])

So stop by and say "Hello!" if you're in the DeKalb area (Seriously!  It'd be great to see those of you that I know, and meet those of you that I don't!)!!  It's at The House Cafe from 11-4 this coming Saturday, April 2nd.

I can't leave you all without posting any pictures, so here's one of Lucas from a few weeks ago. Hope to you Saturday!!! :) :) :) :)

Lucas Weekly : Week 4 {3/14/11-3/20/11}

Something that Seth and I do every night before we go to sleep, as I'm sure most parents do (or maybe we're just obsessive and crazy?), is take a little peek at Lucas while he's sleeping.  Kids are just so precious when they sleep and I have to resist every urge to grab him up and squeeze him!  Seth and I joke that Luc will be 16 and we'll still be checking on him every night, making sure he's warm and breathing.  Anyways, the picture for Week 4 of Lucas Weekly comes from one of our nightly peek-ins.

Taken 3/20/11

And a bonus picture, the view from the other side.  :)

I'll be posting Week 5 later this week, then I'll be all caught up and posting only one Lucas Weekly post a week.  HURRAY!! :)

Have a great day!

Lucas Weekly : Week 3 {3/7/11-3/13/11}

The picture for Week 3 of Lucas Weekly is a sad one.  Seth was sick, and Lucas was sick AND teething.   Seth was feeling well enough to watch Luc for a couple of minutes while I hopped in the shower, and when I came out I saw them all cuddled like this watching something on Netflix.  I immediately grabbed my camera to catch this sweet moment.

Looking back at this photo makes me so thankful that everyone in our house is healthy again.  Being sick is no fun, but I think it's worse when you have to watch people you love go through it.  Thank God for our health!!

I Need Your Help!!!

I'm trying to pick a Lucas 365 picture to print as a canvas for an upcoming event, but I'm having the worst time deciding which one to print!!  I went through and picked a bunch of my favorites that I thought would work well for this event and I was hoping my lovely readers could help me choose. :)  I've been going back and forth on this for about a week now, so you'd all be doing me a HUGE favor!!  It's easy peasy, just leave a comment below with the number of your favorite.

Thank you so, SO much for your help!!!!!!!  Happy Monday!!!

Lucas Weekly : Week 2 {2/28/11-3/6/11}

Hope everyone is doing great on this fine Friday!  It's been so beautiful lately and we've been taking as much advantage of the warm weather as possible!  Hope you've been able to do the same. :)

I'm trying to get all caught up with my Lucas Weekly pictures so eventually I'll be posting once a week with the photo from the previous week.  This week and next week, you get two!  :)

This is the face that Lucas makes whenever he's concentrating on something.  It's usually accompanied by heavy breathing and teeth grinding, which is both cute and skin-crawlingly annoying all at once.  Like an adorable nails on a chalkboard. :)

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!!!

Lucas Weekly : Week 1 {2/21/11-2/27/11}

One of the things I loved about my 365 project, Lucas 365, was that Luc changed so quickly in his first year (as all little ones do!) and it was amazing to be able to see that through a daily picture.  In seeing that, when it was ended a couple of weeks ago, I knew I had to do SOMETHING or else looking back I'd feel as though I missed so much.  So I decided to compromise and do a weekly picture!  Should be much easier, right?  I've also decided to do a blog post for each week, that way if I take more than one picture I like, I can easily share it with everyone as opposed to only being able to share one. :)

For the 1st week, I've chosen two images from his 1st Birthday Party.  I had a really hard time choosing because there were so many that I loved of him trying cake for the first time, but these make me smile every time I look at them. :)

After he had finished eating his cake, his Auntie AJ was helping him with the crumbs and the rest of the frosting that was stuck to his tray.  He was so excited he kept following the fork around with his mouth.  Then he'd grab the fork and try to shove it into his mouth faster!  It was so funny!

You can head on over here to the full post from his party.

Happy St Patty's Day!!! :) :) :)

Luc's First Birthday Party!!

Things have been a bit crazy at the Deming house this past week, preventing me from editing and posting these pictures sooner.  Seth was crazy sick, Lucas was teething, fevering and waking up early every day, and I was just trying to keep myself together!  Thankfully, everyone is back to normal, and neither Lucas nor I have caught what Seth had (Thank you, God!!).

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program. :)

I fully expected myself to cry at Luc's party.  I'm much weepier now after having a child (can any of you other moms relate??) and just thinking about him turning one was enough to get me all teary.  I know it sounds totally cliché, but his first year just went by so fast.  Like, scary fast.  Needless to say, I was little worried that I was going to embarrass myself in front of everyone we know during the official celebration.

When the day of his party came, I did end up getting a little misty. Not because my baby was growing up, however, but because of the amount of people that came to celebrate with us.  I mean, I knew who all was coming, but having everyone there all at once and actually seeing them was pretty amazing.  I was feeling the love for sure and was reminded once again of how God has blessed us with amazing friends and family. :)
Lucas woke from his nap just as the guests were arriving.  He had just learned how to crawl earlier that week (FINALLY, my late bloomer!), so I let him make his grand entrance all on his own.  He is, after all, a big boy now.

He made his rounds and was played with by many friends.  He may look a little scared in some of the pictures, but he's not.  He's just a shy guy and a little observer. :)

So many shoes!!!!

I made the cake AND the chocolate frosting from scratch (shameless back-patting, I know!), Seth's sister AJ made the white frosting, and Seth decorated the cake.

"Happy Birthday" time!!!

Seth blew out the candle just in time!

Luc's first taste of Heaven.  He was a little unsure of what to do after we sang "Happy Birthday" and put the cupcake down in front of him, but it wasn't long before he was shoving it into his mouth and yelling "NOM NOM!"

"Hello.  I'm going to eat you now."

Auntie AJ was helping him with the crumbs and remaining frosting and he was so excited he kept following the fork with his mouth, and was then trying to grab it and shove it into his mouth faster!

"Success!  Now, what to do with this..."

Luc and his 83-year-old Great-Gram.

I'm pretty sure I enjoyed opening Luc's presents more than he did. :)

Isn't he just too cool for school??

When everything was said and done, the party was awesome!  I'm a little sad that I wasn't able to talk to everyone as much as I wanted to, which always seems to happen at parties, but it was still great to see everyone!  And I still can't believe Lucas is ONE YEAR OLD.  It's seriously out of control. :)

Happy Almost Friday!!!!!
