Heat Wave

It was a beautiful day today. With it being sunny and in the upper 30's, I couldn't resist the opportunity to get outside and take some pictures. It was so nice to get out into the fresh air after being cooped up inside for so long. Here's my fave from the afternoon.

Bath time!

My niece, Ellie, was visiting this past weekend and I was able to get some super cute pictures of her in the tub. Taking pictures of her is always fun because even though she's only 8 1/2 months old, she totally knows how to work the camera! The moment I lift it to her face she's smiling like a pro!

Here she is rockin' the faux hawk.

This one was taken later in the day after she was all fresh and clean.

My favorite pictures from 2008

I recently read an article that suggested going through your old pictures and evaluating them to see where you can improve. I've only been seriously taking pictures since July, so I didn't have much to go through, but it was fun going through my pictures and seeing what I've done in the past 5 months. So here they are, without further ado, my favorite pictures from 2008!

This was the first "serious" picture I took. It was in August, about 3 weeks after I got my new camera and the first time I actually had a specific vision about a picture I wanted to take. My friend Amber wanted a nice picture of her and her husband Brandon and I needed some models.

This next picture was taken at my Mother-in-Law's farm in September.

These next few pictures are of my cutie pie niece, Ellie. These were taken at the beginning of October. I may be a little biased, but isn't she just so sweet??

For this one, which was taken in October, my husband, myself, and some friends went to play disc golf. I didn't feel like playing so I was just messing around with my camera and actually ended up with something I liked!

This one is from Matthiessen State Park and was taken in October.

Another one from October. I took pictures of the band my husband is in, Keslinger. This is a picture of the guitarist, Jon.

This next set of pictures are probably my all time favorite for the year. My friend, Kimo, asked me back in August shortly after I got my camera if I would mind taking pictures for her when she was all big and prego. It was such a great opportunity for me to learn! These pictures were taken at the beginning of November with their adorable (and very photogenic!) dog, Milo.

This one is my absolute favorite!!

My husbands bandmate, Ben, asked if I would take some pictures of him for a competition he was in earlier this month. This was taken in December and was one of my favorites.

At the beginning of December, Seth and I decided to take a trip over New Year's since I had time off from work. I've always loved Arizona and he had never been there, so we decided to make the long trek out west. From Illinois it was about 23 hours one way. It may have been a long drive, but for me it was so worth it! I had a really hard time narrowing down my favorites!

These first four are from Saguaro National Park. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend it!

After Saguaro NP, we headed up to Sedona. Another beautiful area!

And what trip to Arizona would be complete without visiting the Grand Canyon?

Well, I hope you enjoyed my review of 2008! I'm so excited to see what new opportunities 2009 will bring!

New Blog!!

Alright, this is the 3rd time I've tried to start a blog, and I've come to realize that I'm just not that good at it. Probably because I don't like writing that much, nor am I very good at it (two things that work against someone who is trying to keep up with a blog!). I've decided to start this back up again as a way to keep myself active in taking pictures. So often I'll get some shots that I'm happy with, and then go for weeks without even picking up my camera, hoping that it will tide me over until the next good shot I take. Almost like I'm just waiting for the conditions to be right again before I take a picture. But I know that if a person wants to get good at something, they need to practice, even when they don't want to. So here I go. Again. I'm not going to make any promises as to how often I'll post because I just know that the second I set a goal my brain will automatically try to revolt against it. But I will TRY (great emphasis on that word) to post at least every two weeks. That's pretty reasonable, right? I guess we'll find out. :)
